If your organization still has an older version of a web application that requires Internet Explorer 8 to run but the operating system used is newer than Windows XP, you can consider using Enterprise Mode for Internet Explorer.
In this blog post, I will show you how to activate Enterprise Mode for Internet Explorer 11.
Right now the Enterprise mode is not activated as you cannot see it in the Tools menu of IE.
Open Group Policy Editor by launching gpedit.msc.
Navigate to User Configurations, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Internet Explorer. Double-click on “Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu”
Click Enabled, enter http://www.cnn.com (as an example) as the web site you want to use Enterprise Mode for, and click Apply.
Click OK to dismiss the gpedit.msc.
Now from the command prompt, enter gpupdate /force. Ensure that the update is successful.
Now close all opened IE Windows then re-open it. Enterprise Mode will be available.
Now every time you use a web application that requires IE 8, you can turn Enterprise Mode on.
