In this lab we will be installing Microsoft Windows 2019 and configure it as an Active Directory/DNS server. We will divide this lab into two parts. Part one will be the actual installation of the Server Operating System. Part two will be the installation/configuration of Active Directory and DNS. This is an easy lab, we just need to read and follow the instructions shown here and an Active Directory Server will be ready to be used for your organization.
First, insert the installation media into the drive and boot up the server. Ensure that the server boots from the DVD drive. Press any key to boot from that drive. Choose as shown and click Next.
Click Install Now
Windows now asks for a license key. Choose “I don’t have a product key” for now. We can enter the key after.
Choose Windows Server 2019 Standard (Desktop Experience) and click Next.
Read, accept the license terms and click Next.
Choose “Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)”
Choose the drive to install Windows onto and click Next.
Now sit back and relax, wait for the installation to finish.
When the installation is completed, the server will restart. If you cannot wait for a few seconds, click Restart now.
When the server comes back up, enter a password for the Administrator and click Finish. Make sure you remember this password. (Choose a complicated one so that it is hard for others to guess but easy for you to remember.)
Now to server presents me with a home screen. Note that the time on the server is incorrect. This is because of the wrong time zone set automatically by the server. We will need to change it in the next lab.
Now press Ctrl+Alt+Del to login. Enter the password and press Enter (or click the Arrow key).
If you see this, click No.
Close all Windows.
Here is your Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition with Desktop Experience has been successfully installed.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition. The next step will be to configure it and turn it into an Active Directory Server.
