How to install MySQL Server 188.8.131.52 on Windows 10 Technical Preview
First, we need to download the mysql server software. To do that, visit MySQL.com and click the Downloads button.
Click Downloads, click Windows, and then click MySQL Installer.
Click the Download button.
You will be asked to create a MySQL account. Click No thanks, just start my download.
Note that the download is in progress now.
Once done, double-click on the downloaded file mysql-installer-community-184.108.40.206 to install.
Accept the license and click Next.
Choose Custom Installation type and click Next.
Choose the components to be installed and click the green arrow.
When the installation is complete, click Next.
Click Next to configure MySQL Server.
Choose Config Type as Development Machine. Leave the default MySQL port number of 3306. Also click Show Advanced Options. Click Next.
Enter the MySQL Root Password twice and click Add User to add a User account.
Enter user name, password, and click OK.
Leave default options for service name and startup type. Click Next.
Leave logging option as default and click Next.
In order to launch MySQL using the command line, launch CMD. Change directory to this path:
C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin
After chaning the path, launch mysql as root with the following command:
mysql –u root –p
A prompt for password is shown. Enter the root password to access mysql.
Type exit to quit mysql.
Now log in as chuong (the user that we created during the mysql installation process). You should be able to log in as well.
As you can see, every time we launch mysql, we need to change the path to C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin. We need to add a PATH in the environment variables so that we can launch mysql from any directory.
At the command prompt, type
The system properties dialog will launch. Click Advanced tab and click Environment Variables button.
Highlight Path and click Edit…
At the end, type
;”C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin”
then click OK.
Click OK to close this dialog box.
And also close this dialog box.
Now restart the computer. Launch the command prompt and try to enter this at the default working directory without having to change it to C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin.
mysql –u root –p
As you can see, we can now successfully launch mysql at any working directory.
